Triose Bios–Pup

Originally from Lubbock, TX, Fernando "Pup" Martinez has been playing the drums since age 9 when, in the fourth grade, as he tells it — "The magic happened one day when I was standing in the school hallway and I saw a 6th grader who had brought his shiny red drums for show and tell. I knew then what my passion would be!" Then, at age 11 he played with his first band "The Latin Beats", playing side by side with their drummer who would become his mentor. At age 14, he joined his first touring band "Los Premiers" and traveled to Chicago, all around California and back to Texas. When asked by the band to do this, he responded "You gotta ask my dad!" This Tex-Mex band would be honored years later at the Buddy Holly Terrace as pioneers of Tejano Music.

Having lived in the Ithaca area for 18 years now, Pup has established himself as a staple in the Ithaca music scene, having played with many groups, most notably the Bernie Milton Band. Pups polyrhythmic latin styles and thick, funky grooves are now the backbone of Triose, and with his explosive style and penchant for quick fills and inspired solos, he fuels the nitroglycerine that is Triose. His main influences are Dennis Chambers, Graham Lear, Dave Weckyl, Alex Acuña, James Brown and the JB’s, Santana, Chicago, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Spyro Gyra, and Weather Report, among many others.
